Third wave of Corona in France, one month lockdown in many areas including Paris
Corona is being seen in many countries including India, due to which many countries have announced the lockdown. Even in France, Prime Minister Jean-Jean Castex has announced a limited lockdown in view of the third wave of Corona.
Prime Minister Jean-Jean Castex on Thursday imposed a one-month lockdown in 16 areas of the country, including Paris, in the wake of rising COVID-19 cases. CNN reported that the new lockdown is scheduled to last four weeks from midnight Friday, but that it is less restrictive than the measures imposed in March and November last year. During this time Scus and necessary shops will remain open.
The PM said, "It is obviously about allowing people to be outside, but not to go to friends' house to party or to meet a lot of people by forgetting social distancing and masks."
According to the new guidelines, people will be encouraged to work from home and will be allowed to roam outside or exercise only after having an 'approval certificate'. They cannot go more than 10 km away from their home. Night time curfew - currently from 6 pm - will be extended to 7 pm if new measures are implemented.
Schools and universities will be open. Essential businesses will remain open - and will now include book shops and music shops.
Earlier, Castex said on Tuesday that the country had entered a 'third wave of a kind' of COVID-19 infections, with many types of viruses affecting the nation amid such cases.
"The epidemic is playing overtime. Which we look like as a form of the third wave," Castex said while addressing the lawmakers. According to Johns Hopkins University (JHU), France has recorded a total of 4,241,959 infections and 91,833 deaths so far.
